Jukensei x Bandsman

As I was first getting into the realm of fanfiction and following various anime series, Digimon was my "drug" of choice. Although at first I just dismissed it as another Pokemon ripoff, I started watching a Fox marathon of it one lazy Saturday morning, and from then on I was hooked. It wasn't just about cool monsters what could blow stuff up -- I was more interested in the human interactions, watching how each character grew and developed throughout the course of the series. As the storyline progressed, eight fractured, flawed children grew to work as a team, growing up and growing close together.

Then came the fandom. I found the world of Digimon fan fiction, fan art, and, much later down the road, doujinshi. After finding myself reading one too many bad Taichi x Yamato and Jyou x Koushiro fics, I started pondering alternate pairings, couplings of characters that one wouldn't normally consider. Admittedly, between the first and second seasons, you get plenty of characters to work from. And lo and behold, I settled upon a favorite, and relatively rare, pairing of Yamato x Jyou.

HELL'S KITCHEN

Title: Psychadelia
Size: B5
Published: 5/5/01
Pages: 30
Novel: No
Rating: Shounen-ai

Aah, another relatively cute 'first time' doujinshi. Yamato and Jyou are together having a few beers. Possibly a little tipsy, Yamato leans over and kisses Jyou, then gets upset and embarrassed. Jyou, however, reciprocates Yamato's feelings and kisses his fingertips. So sweet. Pardon me while I go into sugar-shock. o.o

NASUBIKENCHIKU

Title: ??
Size: B5
Published: 5/5/01
Pages: 30
Novel: No
Rating: Hard Yaoi
Other Pairing: Taichi x Jyou

Talk about some good Yaoi lovin'. In this doujinshi, Jyou walks in on Yamato and Taichi as they talk. Taichi gets Jyou all riled by grabbing his crotch. Later, Yamato and Jyou get it on. Aww, yeah. Pure, unadulterated smut. But not graphic smut. Gotta love it.

SUGAR

Title: Room
Size: B5
Published: 5/5/01
Pages: 48
Novel: No
Rating: Soft Yaoi
Other Pairing: Unrequited Yamato x Taichi

Room is probably the doujinshi that Yamato x Jyou fangirls are most familiar with. Yamato is characterized as an almost stereotypical blushing and weeping uke, and it would appear that although he is sleeping with Jyou, he still holds a bit of a torch for Taichi. At one point during a steamy love-making session, Yamato calls out Taichi's name, and Jyou stares down at him in shock. Later, Yamato encounters Taichi while taking the train home and kisses him, only to have Taichi angry at him and his own thoughts turning to what he gave up with Jyou.

SUGAR/ECOLOGY KYOUDAN

Title: Jukensei x Bandsman
Size: B5
Published: 5/20/01
Pages: 36
Novel: No
Rating: Soft Yaoi

Aah, smut, the way only Sugar and Ecology Kyoudan can deliver. In the first story, by Sugar, Yamato is lying awake in bed while Jyou gets ready for class, and later throws a pillow at Jyou in a moment of angst as he says goodbye. But fear not! Jyou returns to comfort our angsting uke Yamato, and they go at it like good little bunnies. The second story, done in that odd yet appealing style of Ecology Kyoudan, shows Yamato interrupting Jyou's study time with a little head. They go at it some more, then start arguing.

UNKNOWN CIRCLE

Title: Jisei Game
Size: B5
Published: 11/23/00
Pages: 30
Novel: No
Rating: Shounen-ai
Other Pairing: Taichi x Daisuke

In the first story, Yamato and Jyou meet up at the store. After buying their things, they sit on a park bench and talk about Taichi and Daisuke's relationship. The second story is set when Yamato and Jyou were younger. Jyou is moping over being separated from Gomamon, when he hears music coming from the park. He sees Yamato at the bottom of the hill playing his harmonica, so Jyou makes a grand entrance by tumbling down the hill. The two talk about something, and Yamato gives Jyou a kiss. Very cute!

The artist who drew this definitely has talent, but it's obvious that they did a rush-job on this doujinshi. The pictures are sloppy at times, oddly proportioned in others, and the kata is nigh-illegible. But other than that, this doujinshi is certainly a cute one, and very much a surprise (I'd bought it thinking it was a normal doujinshi). And it's YamaJyou! Which makes it all the more special.

Back.
