Digital Whatever -- Miscellaneous

Oooh, look! Random Digimon doujinshi! Um. A better summary to come. Maybe.

DEVIL'S TALK

Title: Shooting Star
Size: B5
Published: 5/6/01
Pages: 24
Novel: No
Rating: Yaoi
Pairing: Takeru x Jyou (Yep, Takeru-seme...)

In the first story, Gomamon finds Jyou crying and comforts him as he recalls the time he spent telling Yamato and Takeru about the constellations. The second story is complete PWP -- Takeru meets up with Jyou as he's interning in the hospital, locks the door behind them, and pounces him. The two get it on with some down-and-dirty Yaoi lovin', bay-bee.

No, really, the art in this is good! It's a cute style... And certainly an intersting switch to see Takeru as the seme. Then again, I do tend towards liking Jyou as uke, anyway...

ECOLOGY KYOUDAN

Title: 01 x 02 Mix
Size: B5
Published: 6/4/00
Pages: 24
Novel: No
Rating: Hints of both shounen-ai and het, but nothing outright
Pairing: Taichi x Daisuke, Taichi x Koushiro, Daisuke x Hikari, Yamato x Jyou, Jyou x Mimi x Koushiro, Angemon x Angewomon

I'm a little divided on this particular circle. Most of their stand-alone pictures are pretty decent. However, when they start getting into the exaggerated, gag-style art, it starts looking a little odd. This doujinshi is primarily gag. Stories include Angemon and Angewomon on a date; Taichi, Miyako, Daisuke, and Iori circling around Koushiro and playing with his computer; the 01 kids all taking a turn playing (and destroying) Yamato's harmonica; and Ken contemplating whether Wormmon will evolve into a butterfly.

HARUSAME CLUB

Title: Digital Battle
Size: B5
Published: 5/3/00
Pages: 36
Novel: No
Rating: Het?
Pairing: I don't know, but this chart might help.

Gennai provides some power to allow the Digimon to evolve to a gijinka form. The first story shows how the kids react to this new form. Later stories show Angemon making Takeru cry (and angering Yamato in the process), Takeru and Hikari turning to Sora for comfort as Yamato and Taichi fight, and gijinka-Tailmon comforting gijinka-Patamon after Takeru returns to the real world.

SHISINDEN

Title: Electric Mind
Size: B5
Published: 8/11/00
Pages: 54
Novel: No
Rating: Shounen-ai and het
Pairing: Taichi x Yamato, Daisuke x Hikari, Takeru x Hikari

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Shisinden? This doujinshi tells two stories -- one of young Gennai meeting the Digidestined's Digimon partners after they've hatched, centering around Plotmon and the ordeal she goes through when Hikari, in the real world, nearly dies from pneumonia. The other tale centers around Daisuke, Takeru, and Hikari and their reactions when they walk in on Taichi and Yamato smooching.

While the art is definitely lovely in this -- some of the best I've come across -- it also isn't quite up to the quality of Shisinden's Harry Potter work. It's a cute doujinshi and certainly recommended (particularly to the rabid Taito fans), but it isn't one to go out of your way to buy. Unless, like me, you're a raving Shisinden fangirl...

Title: Electric Mind 2: Canaan
Size: B5
Published: 8/11/00
Pages: 66
Novel: 8 pages
Rating: Shounen-ai
Pairing: Takeru x Ken, Takeru x Daisuke, Taichi x Yamato

Another lovely piece of work from Shisinden, and certainly better in plot than the first Electric Mind. The primary story, which appears to be a dream sequence, centers around Ken, who is feeling guilty and angsty over his actions as the Digimon Kaiser. Takeru descends from the heavens as an avenging angel seeking judgement for Ken's sins. In the end, Takeru gives Ken his forgiveness with a kiss... and then returns to "reality" for some snuggle time with Daisuke. This doujinshi also includes a text story following some random adventure with Taichi and Yamato.

The artwork in this is much better than the first installment, although the artists appear to struggle with drawing the Digimon partners. My other issue with the artists is that Jyou is the only main character that doesn't appear, even for a cameo, in any of their doujinshi. What's with that, neh?

SOHYA IZUMI

Title: Computer Children
Size: B5
Published: 8/11/00
Pages: 20
Novel: No
Rating: Suggests shounen-ai
Pairing: Jyou x Takeru

This is a cute one. Takeru is depressed as he heads home from school, when he comes across Jyou as he's leaving his own classmates. Jyou goes home with Takeru to assist him with his homework, and Jyou recalls the time he saved Takeru from drowning. Meanwhile, Takeru gets all blushy and big-eyed around Jyou -- maybe it's an unrequited crush. The end shows Takeru and Jyou smiling at each other and holding hands.

UNKNOWN CIRCLE

Title: Wheel of Fortune
Size: B5
Published: 11/23/00
Pages: 30
Novel: No
Rating: Normal

This story appears to tell the tale of how Tentomon came to be. Little Koushiro finds a ladybug crawling on his windowsill and watches it as it crawls along. He talks with his parents, and then cries when the ladybug flies away. Elsewhere, in the Digital World, Tentomon's um...larva-form hatches (I know there's a name for this form, but I can't remember it. So larva will do.). A later story shows the rookie Digimon speculating what their partners will be like, while in the real world Taichi, Koushiro, and Sora meet up and talk in the middle of a soccer game.

Oof. Cute. Sickeningly, disgustingly cute. Did I mention this was cute?

Back.
