2x3 - Passive Aggressive

What can I say, this is easily my favorite -- and possibly one of the least appreciated -- couples in the Gundam Wing fan universe. It's a rare coupling that doesn't have quite the support as, say 1x2 or 3x4. I'm also a tremendous fan of Trowa as the uke, which is also quite rare -- as, technically, the tallest of the Gundam pilots, he is generally cast as the seme in typical doujinshi custom.

ANNEDUOTROWA (MAVERIX)

Novel: No
Rating: Shounen-ai, possible Soft Yaoi
Other Pairings: 1x3, 4x3, Oz guard x3, possible 5x3 (though I'm not quite positive)

Bugger. Though it was published first, this was the last of the Maverix collection that I purchased. This doujinshi, while absolutely lovely, contains two of the stories that are detailed in Gorgeous Egoist. Look to that one for doujinshi description, since I wrote it first, but it's listed last due to date published.

At any rate, at least I can say that I officially own all of the Maverix collection. How many collectors can say that, neh?

I love the Anneduotrowa circle. The artwork is so rich, so stylized without being excessive. This is the circle to hunt down if you're into Trowa-uke.

Aah, the first doujinshi I ever bought! At a lunchtime gathering for tea (I'll bet that was Quatre's idea), Duo becomes jealous of how friendly the other pilots are to Trowa. Duo accuses Trowa of being a spy, and Trowa throws his tea in Duo's face. The two start to fight, and are pulled apart by Quatre. The two then walk off to argue alone. Duo kisses Trowa and, as in previous doujinshi by this circle, Trowa just doesn't like it. The poor sap doesn't know what he's missing...

Size: B5
Published: 8/3/96
Pages: 66
Novel: No
Rating: Mostly shounen-ai, minor Soft Yaoi
Other Pairings: 13x3, random Oz thugs x3

This easily ranks among my top favorite of all the doujinshi I own. The artwork is to die for, including the gorgeously detailed backgrounds, and the plot is both interesting, supernatural, and very subtle. I had to read it several times to understand it, and I'm sure there's a lot I'm missing without having a translation.

Duo happens upon Trowa sleeping in an alley between buildings reminiscent of New Orleans. As he's taken by the cute homeless boy sleeping in the alley, he does what any sensible, smitten teenager would do -- he leans down and kisses him. Trowa wakes up, shouts at Duo, and takes off. As Duo searches for the mysterious, cute homeless boy, his travels take him to a mansion, where he breaks in and is chased by a pair of great cats. Inside, he meets up with Treize, who, surrounded by his large cats, gives a nasty smirk to Duo. Trowa appears and crawls into Treize's lap like a good little slaveboy, and Duo takes his leave of the mansion. Later on, Duo decides to free Trowa from the wicked Treize, and again he breaks into the mansion. Unbeknownst to him, two of Treize's flunkies are attempting to rape Trowa. They shackle Trowa and strip him of his pants before he lashes out violently at them. Duo walks in on Trowa holding one of the flunkie's torn arms in his teeth and the second one raising a gun to his back as he lays dying. Duo throws himself upon Trowa, but Trowa is still shot in the arm. Duo gathers Trowa in his arms and then bandages his arm. And as Trowa lifts his fingers to his lips to lick away the rest of the blood, Duo comes upon the startling revelation that Trowa is in fact one of the large cats guarding Treize's estate.

Then came the dread words: To be continued. There is no second book that I know of from this plotline. Sigh.

Rating: Shounen-ai

Disappointingly, this was more an advertisement for the Annduotrowa circle than a doujinshi. It did have a few lovely pictures and a minor storyline mixed in, however -- something involving Duo in a dress jumping on top of a violently protesting Trowa and snogging the stuffing out of him. But other than that, my reaction to the doujinshi fit the title...

Title: Gorgeous Egoist
Size: B5
Published: 12/96?
Pages: 140
Novel: No
Rating: Shounen-ai, possible Soft Yaoi
Other Pairings: 1x3, 4x3, Oz guard x3, possible 5x3 (though I'm not quite positive)

While I'm absolutely in love with the artwork, this doujinshi is not one of my favorites of the circle when it comes to plot. Darnit, Trowa, when Duo smooches you, you're supposed to like it! This is a series of stories, mostly involving Duo forcing his lips to Trowa's, and Trowa getting freaked out by it. There are also several instances where Heero tries to kiss Trowa, and a scene in the Oz holding cell where a disgruntled Duo, Heero, and (possibly) Wu Fei have a go at Trowa for revenge of being imprisoned. This doujinshi doesn't actually show any down-and-dirty going on, but there are some scenes where, judging by Trowa's reaction, you really do have to wonder if he was more than just kissed.

BETTIE SERVEERT

Title: Cirque
Size: B5
Published: 10/27/96
Pages: 30
Novel: No
Rating: Shounen-ai, possible het
Other Pairings: Possible 2x1, 1xR, 2x?

A braid-less Duo has joined Trowa at the circus, taking the place of Catherine in the knife-throwing act. Duo and Trowa's act is an apparent success, as Catherine happily places a kiss on Duo's cheek when it is over. Duo alternates between brooding about his lost braid and putting up a cheerful front when he is around Trowa. The doujinshi then shows the sequence where Duo loses his braid, but it is difficult to tell by pictures alone who exactly cut it off. In one panel, Duo has a knife beside his braid, and the next shows it lying on the ground. Duo then collapses crying into Trowa's arms. In the end, Trowa is sitting in bed, his face in his hands, as Duo sleeps beside him. Trowa reaches over and, crying, kisses Duo's hand while he sleeps.

I think what I liked most about this doujinshi was the fact that, even without his braid, Duo was still recognizeably Duo. The plot was very cute, as well, and neither character appeared overtly seme or uke (I'm classifying it as a 2x3, as that is how the author classifies it.) Also, despite what the cover says, there are no other pairings featured in this doujinshi. However, as I cannot read Japanese, I do not know if those couples are hinted at through conversation and other text. I do hear that there is a second edition of Cirque (which I have yet to find) that goes a little more into Duo's past relationship with Heero, possibly explaining the other pairings listed.

JIBAKU SHOW

Title: Ichigochan Kikiitsupatsu
Size: B5
Published: 11/26/95
Pages: 26
Novel: No
Rating: Soft Yaoi, bordering on Hard Yaoi

Trowa and Catherine are in the middle of performing their famed knife throwing act at the circus, with the other Gundam pilots watching on, when suddenly the real Catherine bursts through the tent, clad in a sheet! The Catherine on stage pulls off her mask and reveals herself to be Quatre (while the Quatre in the audience was merely a wooden puppet). Quatre proceeds to shackle Trowa to the throwing board, and mysteriously, his clothes are torn off him. Duo decides to jump in and save the day by -- giving Trowa a blowjob?! I don't know if I completely get it... The second story involves an injured Duo trying to look up Trowa's skirt, and getting more of an eyeful than he bargained for.

Back.
